Best Practice #9 "Come and See Evangelism"
Today’s post highlights the ninth of ten best practices of “Come and See Evangelism” found in the Gospel of John, chapter 1.
Best Practice #9—Turn People Over to Jesus
“He brought him to Jesus.” John 1:42
After Andrew invited Peter, he brought Peter directly to Jesus and turned him over to him. Philip did similarly with Nathanael, as did also the Samaritan woman with the men she spoke to from her town.
In the end, we cannot convert anyone. And we may never know how or whether the seed of our witness sprouts and grows. But Jesus always knows, and he’s the one in charge. So it makes sense to turn people over to him.
A primary way to do this is through prayer. Prayer reflects the heart-deep trust we have in the Lord, realizing that our witness is only one of the means the Lord may be using to bring people to himself. Our reliance on the Lord in this fashion will encourage us to keep on developing funneling skills and not to nervously fall back on megaphone-practices as though everything depends on us.
